“NADIA”: A musical portrait of Nadia Boulanger
A composer, pianist, organist and internationally acclaimed conductor, Nadia Boulanger was also the most influential pedagogue of the 20th century, teaching musicians such as Aaron Copland, Leonard Bernstein and Astor Piazzolla. In a program that covers her influence around the world, from Europe to the Americas, from her own works to Tchaikovsky’s lullaby, from Fauré’s melodies to Gershwin's songs and Lili Boulanger’s nocturne, each piece of this program tells us about the extraordinary life of Nadia Boulanger.
This program also features a US premiere by Johan Farjot and a world premiere by Colombian composer Francisco Zumaque, a former student of “Mademoiselle Boulanger” written specifically for this concert.
The PROGRAM: will portray a broad and brilliant palette of musical colors delivered as only “Nadia” could have inspired it, our program includes Music from the Americas and Europe, a world premiere written specifically for “Nadia” by Colombian composer Francisco Zumaque (who studied with Nadia Boulanger at the American School of music in Paris), and another new piece by Pianist and composer Johan Farjot, Story telling by Faustine de Mones, as well as tangos from A. Piazzolla in the voice of French soprano Jeanne Gerard.
